The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Folatières 1er Cru is clean and precise on the nose. However, this takes time to settle into its groove, bashful at first and refusing to give much away before acquiescing and offering light, wet pavement and apple blossom scents. Returning after ten minutes, I am perhaps intrigued by this Folatières more than any other in the flight. The palate is very well-balanced, with a sharpness and precision that I admire. Quintessentially Puligny in style, it delivers a compelling spicy finish with the salinity to drag you back for more. Superb. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
